Housing
Welcome to your home away from home!

Your home in university housing is more than just a place to eat and sleep. On-campus housing provides amazing opportunities to meet friends, faculty, get involved in campus life, and gain leadership skills. University housing enhances academic experiences and creates moments that lead to friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.
Diversity is celebrated in university housing where students from a variety of backgrounds, religions, and cultures come together. These experiences broaden your beliefs and views, which are invaluable as you prepare for life in a global society.
University on-campus housing policy
On-campus housing is an integral part of the college experience, which is why Illinois State requires students to live in university housing for their first two years out of high school.
Students may be exempt from the housing requirement if they plan to live within 40 miles with their parents or guardians, are married or in a documented domestic partnership, and/or have a dependent. Information about the exemption process is available at University Housing Services Exemptions Request.
The on-campus housing policy states that students will not be able to register for classes until a university housing contract and initial payment are received by the University or the student has been granted an exemption or release request from the on-campus housing policy by University Housing Services. This requirement applies as long as space is available in university housing.
