Room selection and roommate matching
Room assignments
Students who sign a spring housing contract are assigned by Housing staff to available spaces. Students can complete a personal profile, and indicate room type and room location preferences. Staff use the preferences and profile to find the best possible match from available spaces. Our goal is to match students at 70% or above.
Other important details:
University Housing Services makes housing and roommate assignments based upon a student’s gender identity, not birth sex. Students are asked to select from one of three gender identities, male, female, or non-binary in the Housing and Dining Portal.
University Housing has both single gender (male/female) or all gender (male, female, neutral) floors in Watterson, Tri-Towers, and Hewett-Manchester. All gender floors in the Hewett-Manchester Complex and Tri-Towers feature an inclusive housing arrangement with alternating room genders throughout the community.
Additionally, we feature gender neutral, male, and female bathroom options in Hewett floors 4 and 14 and Manchester floors 4, 10, 11, 12, 13, and 16. Students are able to use the bathroom with which they identify on any floor in our buildings.

Roommate matching
All students can complete a personal profile that is used for roommate matching. The housing system calculates percentage match between you and other students who completed the profile which can be helpful in making your placement.

Summer school housing
Housing is available during the summer for students enrolled in summer school or university sponsored programs. A limited number of floors are used in residence halls. Housing contracts are on the housing website beginning in April, immediately prior to the summer for which housing is desired. Additional housing
If all rooms fill, students may be assigned accommodations in temporary housing until a permanent room becomes available. Temporary housing is located in study lounges. The study lounges are private and generally house four students; a select few can house up to six students. Lounges are similar to permanent residence hall rooms in that they are typically located on resident floors, have doors that lock, and are furnished with beds, mattresses, desks, chairs, and wardrobe closets.
Students generally begin to be reassigned to regular housing after the first 10 days of classes. Some students, however, may remain in temporary housing for one semester.
Special accommodations
Accommodations are reviewed case by case for students with disabilities, allergies, or medical conditions. Accommodations may be, but are not limited to: accessible rooms and facilities for students with physical disabilities; accessible rooms to meet the needs of students with vision disabilities; strobe lights and doorbells with lights for students who are deaf or hard of hearing; or special rooms and facilities for medical needs.
