Campus neighborhoods

The University’s undergraduate housing is clustered in five neighborhoods across the 850-acre campus. They include Tri-Towers, Hewett-Manchester, Watterson Towers, Cardinal Court, and Fell/School Apartments. All are within walking distance from the picturesque Quad. Each area provides its own unique feel. No matter where you live, you can expect a sense of community, individual attention, support services to help you succeed, and a connection to Illinois State University!

All rooms are air conditioned and connected to wireless internet. Residence halls include low-flow showerheads, water bottle refilling stations, and recycling centers as part of our commitment to sustainability.

Cardinal Court

Cardinal Court houses 964 undergraduate students (primarily sophomores) in 227 furnished apartments. It provides a unique opportunity to experience apartment-style living with the benefits of living in university housing. Cardinal Court is within walking distance to campus and is also on the campus shuttle route.

Amenities include full kitchens (dishwasher, microwave, stove, and refrigerator with ice maker); a mix of community and in-unit laundry facilities; on-site parking; wireless internet access with streaming capabilities; and a community center with study areas, a theater, Subway restaurant, gymnasium, fitness center, and game area. Cardinal Court has nine-month housing, which means it remains open through all university breaks during the academic year.

Fell Avenue and School Street Apartments

Fell Avenue and School Street apartments offer an on-campus apartment option for transfer, upper-class, international, and graduate students. The three small apartment buildings on School Street and Fell Avenue are within walking distance of the Quad and campus activities. These apartments provide an affordable option to students while still living in University Housing Services apartments. Full-time residence hall coordinators and community assistants reside in Fell-School.

Each apartment is a 2 bedroom and 1 bathroom unit, and houses 2-4 residents. 211 Fell are single rooms only. Amenities include full kitchens (refrigerator, electric stove, microwave, and kitchen table with chairs), living room furniture, bedrooms with twin beds (extra-long), dresser, desk, desk chair, internet and wall unit air conditioners. Water and electricity are included in the room rate. Fell Avenue and School Street apartments are open for nine-month housing, so they remain available through all university breaks during the academic year.

Tri-Towers

Haynie, Wilkins, and Wright (Tri-Towers) includes three, 12-story residence halls adjacent to CEFCU Arena, Hancock Stadium, and Horton Field House. They are a short walk to Milner Library, the Student Services Building, Bone Student Center, and Schroeder Hall, the University’s largest classroom building. These halls are accessible to students with disabilities. The furniture provided is movable, with beds that can be bunked or lofted to various heights. Wilkins provides nine-month housing, which means it remains open during fall, winter, and spring break.

This housing area also has a printing station, a fitness center, study areas, sand volleyball court, basketball court, and open outdoor areas great for softball, soccer, or studying with friends. The Marketplace at Linkins adjoins the three residence halls and provides a wide variety of menu selections. There is also a Subway restaurant located at Tri-Towers.

Hewett-Manchester

Hewett-Manchester are two 18-story residence halls. These halls are located a short distance from Milner Library and the Bone Student Center. Both halls are accessible to students with disabilities. The furniture provided is movable, with beds that can be bunked or lofted to various heights. Hewett-Manchester offers students a variety of Themed Living-Learning Communities, as well as meeting rooms and outdoor basketball courts. Hewett-Manchester is home to the Julia N. Visor Academic Center, a fitness center, a printing station, and the student-run Association of Residence Halls.

The dining center for Hewett-Manchester is located in Watterson Dining Commons, one block away. Students are welcome to dine at Marketplace at Linkins in Tri-Towers as well. There is a Subway restaurant located in Manchester. Hewett-Manchester has nine-month housing, which means they remain open during fall, winter, and spring break. Hewett-Manchester has gender-neutral bathrooms on select floors and the largest selection of gender-neutral rooms.

Watterson Towers

A 28-story twin-tower complex, Watterson Towers is located next to Stevenson Hall, which is home to the College of Arts and Sciences. Watterson is also adjacent to Uptown Normal. Each tower is divided into five “houses,” with each house consisting of five floors. Elevators stop on the third floor of each house. The furniture provided is movable with beds that can be bunked or lofted to various heights. Watterson has doubles, triples, quads, and some single rooms.

Watterson offers varied room types and amenities that include study group and meeting rooms, a printing station, a fitness center, and outdoor basketball courts. Watterson Dining Commons is connected to this residential area. There is also a Subway restaurant located in the complex. Unique to Watterson Towers, residents have access to Bird’s Eye View, a top floor lounge with recreational activities, study areas, and a panoramic view of campus and Uptown Normal.
