Policies to keep you safe
Here's a snapshot of our community guidelines:
Alcohol/Cannabis/Drug Use: Students are expected to follow all state, local, and federal laws regarding alcohol, cannabis, and drugs. Your safety and the comfort of others is what’s important to us. Alcohol and drug use can impede on this. Take measures to keep yourself and others safe.
Emergency Equipment: Safeguard the safety of all Redbirds by respecting emergency equipment like sprinklers, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, and AED machines. Avoid tampering or obstructing their functionality to ensure readiness when needed.
Noise: Have a fantastic time, but be considerate of others' study, rest, and relaxation. Your enjoyment should not disrupt others' rights to a peaceful environment.
Guests: Welcoming guests? Ensure they're registered and escorted within the halls. Remember, you're accountable for your guests' behavior, so keep an eye on them to maintain a positive community experience.
Nest Calls: All students complete a Nest Call with RA/CAs. During this time, they complete a Roommate Agreement to help guide you and your roommate(s) in establishing a mutually satisfying environment.
Battery-Powered Personal Mobility Devices: Due to the risk of fire, all battery-powered personal mobility devices (hoverboards, electric scooters, electric bikes, electric skateboards, electric unicycles, etc.) are prohibited from all University Housing Services residential properties (residence halls and apartments). This prohibition includes use, storage, and charging.
For the safety and security of everyone on campus, the following items are strictly prohibited: weapons such as knives with blades exceeding three inches, firearms, tasers, pepper spray, and various other items.
Security
With freedom comes responsibility. As a resident of university housing, you are free to come and go, but you are also responsible for doing your part to make sure security measures are effective. You are required to swipe your Redbird ID card to gain entrance to your building (locked 24 hours a day, seven days a week) and may be asked to show your room key and Redbird ID to staff for verification.
Student independence and confidentiality
Going away to school means becoming more independent and figuring out how to tackle problems on your own. If you have concerns about your room, a roommate, or any other issue, the staff of University Housing Services is here to help. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) protects student records, preventing staff from answering questions parents might have about their student’s record. Should a parent make an inquiry regarding services, staff may respond by providing information directly to the student.
Before coming to campus
In order to enroll in classes and avoid an additional bill, you must have the following records on file at Student Health Services no later than the 10th day of class of your first semester.
- A current Tdap shot within the last 10 years, plus two or more DTP, Dtap, or Tdap shots
- Two measles, mumps, rubella shots (also known as MMRs)
- Meningococcal conjugate vaccine (Meningitis B is recommended, but not required)
You may submit proof of these records via hand delivery, online submission, fax, or mail. Visit Immunization Requirements | Student Health Services | Illinois State with questions about immunization and record submission requirements.
