MY VITALITY
– Gwendolyn Williams –
Vitality not only keeps you covered come what may, but also encourages you to make positive lifestyle changes.
For our member spotlight this issue, we asked Gwendolyn Williams how she is making the most of the discounts available from our partner brands through the Vitality Programme.
Whether it’s enjoying a Caffè Nero coffee on us, or a discount on outdoor gear from Runners Need, she’s turning her activity points into perks.
What Vitality plan do you have and why did you choose Vitality?
I have Vitality health insurance. It offers the accessibility to a wide range of consultants, doctors and health care professionals when needed.
What does your Vitality plan offer that you didn’t expect?
The advice and support whenever I need it and the reward partners accessible through the Vitality Programme.
What are your favourite Vitality perks?
I enjoy the coffee from Caffè Nero, I use that as a treat for myself and being able to get my running shoes and my outdoors gear from Runners Need.
What’s your coffee order?
Whatever they have on as a special! My last one was the Pumpkin Spice Latte.
Do you have a favourite Vitality partner?
Champneys is my favourite partner. It’s great knowing that when I need a break, I can go to Champneys to relax and enjoy the treatments or activities on offer.
How many Vitality points do you average a week?
The max – 40 points. I volunteer as a Countryside Ranger at the National Trust, which involves doing conservation and land management work on the estate. I also enjoy walking and hiking.
How easy do you find it to achieve your points?
It’s really easy because as long as you’re being active and moving, you can rack up activity points.
How else do you earn points?
During the week, I generally do some type of physical activity (a spin, boxing or HIIT class).
How would you describe Vitality as an insurer in three words?
Value for money.

Care for everyday needs
Ashleigh’s story: ‘I got an appointment three hours later’
Vitality health insurance member Ashleigh had been having some perimenopausal symptoms but could not get a local GP appointment for eight weeks.
Through the Vitality GP app she was able to book one the same day, getting an appointment within three hours.
After speaking to one of our GPs through her smart phone, she was referred for further tests with a specialist consultant.
“I was able to choose a consultant that specialised in my health needs, and immediately booked a follow-up appointment for two weeks’ time,” she explains.
Ashleigh was then referred by the specialist consultant for a procedure in a day hospital.
“We booked the procedure, and everything was approved by Vitality because we’d gone through the system, and it was all integrated. I was then able to have the procedure done and have my follow-up appointment with the consultant.
“I’ve just been so impressed in that from the very beginning it has just been so seamless and so easy to navigate, and the care has been really exceptional.”

Hayley’s story: ‘Don’t think, just do... life’s too short’
Life insurance is not only for when the unthinkable happens, it can be there for us while we’re living too. As Hayley Morris found out.
Hayley Morris never expected she would need to use her Vitality life insurance plan, let alone make two claims on it before her 40th birthday.
But after initially being rushed into hospital with a blood clot in her lungs aged 36, just two years later she was diagnosed with cancer and would have to undergo an operation.
Despite the devastating news, Hayley and her partner David had some peace of mind knowing that she was covered through her Vitality Serious Illness Cover plan, a type of life insurance that pays out a lump sum if you are diagnosed with a listed illness.
As both Hayley’s cancer and her blood clot, also known as a pulmonary embolism – a medical issue only covered by Vitality – were unrelated, she was able to make two separate claims.
“The cover has done wonders for us,” says Hayley. “It meant I knew that my daughter, Bella, would still have money for when she got married or buy her own house, and things like that [if something happened to me].”
Not only that. Hayley’s cover continues today, thanks to Vitality’s unique approach to paying multiple claims in full, so she knows that her financial protection is still in place in the future – for her whole family.
Hayley says: “Don’t just think, just do. Life’s too short. We think it won’t happen to us, but I’m living proof it can.”
