Unparalleled Global Reach
Business Development at the 2026 Annual Meeting
With 10,000+ IP professionals expected in London, the 2026 Annual Meeting puts Business Development at the center of the experience—pairing private meeting spaces, curated introductions, and reimagined networking formats with citywide excursions that turn every interaction into an opportunity to strengthen relationships and source new engagement opportunities, as Jean-Claude Darné finds out.
The Annual Meeting has long been recognized for delivering an unmatched return on investment: its unique ability to bring the global intellectual (IP) community into a single, highly accessible venue dramatically reduces the time and expense professionals otherwise spend traveling across jurisdictions for client visits and partner meetings. This year’s gathering amplifies this advantage with a full suite of new and enhanced Business Development (BD) formats designed to create meaningful, intentional, and efficient engagement opportunities.
Indeed, with 10,000+ IP professionals, business leaders, government officials, and innovators expected in London this May, the 2026 Annual Meeting is poised to deliver the most dynamic, interconnected, and opportunity-rich experience in the event’s nearly 150-year history.
Held at the Excel London Conference Center, INTA’s 148th Annual Meeting elevates networking and BD to unprecedented levels, providing an optimal platform for doing business, strengthening existing relationships, sourcing new clients, and meeting with your outside counsel from around the world—all under one roof.
"The Meeting positions Business Development not as a byproduct of participation, but as a central reason for participating."
- Sacha Colquhoun | INTA (USA)

A Reinvented Approach to Business Development—Built for a New Era
“INTA approaches BD as a core pillar of the registrant experience. Through curated excursions, structured networking activities, and personalized introductions, the Meeting positions Business Development not as a byproduct of participation, but as a central reason for participating,” said Sacha Colquhoun, INTA’s Senior Manager for Business Development (USA).
A Fresh Approach to BD in 2026
- Dual-Hub Programming: While Excel London serves as the primary base for programming and amenities, The Ned operates as a dedicated, all-day hub for BD activities and high-level networking in the heart of the city.
- Immersive City-Wide Excursions: These off-site experiences are specifically designed to help you enjoy London’s iconic landmarks while building meaningful connections with like-minded professionals.
- New and Expanded Formats: From refined Table Topics to cross-sector meetups, networking sessions have been reimagined to ensure every interaction is high-value, intentional, and designed for deep engagement.
- A Global Marketplace: A diverse audience representing 150+ jurisdictions brings cross-border expertise and potential partnerships to all registrants.
“This approach ensures that every registrant—whether in-house counsel, law firm partner, government official, business leader, entrepreneur, or service provider—has an environment tailored to their unique networking styles and preferences, and BD goals,” continues Ms. Colquhoun.
Business Suites: Private Spaces for High-Impact Conversations
The Business Suites program has returned stronger than ever in 2026, reflecting the high demand among corporate registrants who view these private spaces as essential tools for client engagement.
Novartis was among the first to use these Suites when they were offered. “Clearly, the INTA Annual Meeting offers a rare opportunity where all our business partners, including vendors and outside counsel, are in the same place for a few days out of the year,” explained David Lossignol, Global Head of Legal Brand Protection at Novartis (Switzerland).
“It’s a unique opportunity to meet many of them face to face,” continued Mr. Lossignol. “Securing a reserved Business Suite within the convention center helps us immensely in setting up these meetings. The decision to book one was, for us, a no-brainer.”
Hosting meetings at a Business Suite at the Excel London also ensures that registrants remain close to the heart of the Annual Meeting, making it convenient to network and form meaningful connections while participating in the event’s educational programming and various networking activities.
Whether you’re hosting international law firm partners, conducting client reviews, or exploring new collaborations, Business Suites provide the ideal setting to elevate conversations and strengthen partnerships.
“Business Suites are more than just practical; they’re a game-changer for how you can shape your experience at the event. Having your own professional space right there in the convention center makes it so much easier to schedule meetings, host clients, and have those important conversations without running all over the place,” notes Sophie Van de Vorst, Sr. Coordinator, Event Operations, at INTA (Belgium).
Altogether, more than 50 organizations have already booked Business Suites, demonstrating the value of holding confidential discussions, negotiations, and relationship-building sessions in a professional environment that offers both privacy and convenience.
Corporate Members in good standing enjoy complimentary access to the suites. Non-Corporate and Associate Members may book them for a fee. All Business Suites are assigned subject to availability.

Interactive Formats
While educational programming remains central to the Annual Meeting, Business Development is intentionally woven throughout the agenda—so registrants can deepen their knowledge and build meaningful connections at the same time.
Table Topics | A cornerstone of networking at the Annual Meeting, Table Topics are one of the most popular BD activities. Facilitating focused, practitioner-driven discussions across the full life cycle of IP strategy and execution, this year’s Table Topics span advanced trademark clearance and enforcement, global portfolio management and optimization, sustainability and green branding, AI and emerging technologies, and the operational realities of running IP practices in a complex, cross-border environment.
“We are also pleased to welcome a dedicated set of Table Topics addressing patent related issues, including filing strategy, innovation driven IP, and the intersection of patents and business growth,” says 2026 Annual Meeting Co-Chair Lara Kayode, Managing Partner and Founder of O. Kayode & Co. (Nigeria).
Designed for deep technical exchange in a small group setting, Table Topics offer candid, solutions-oriented dialogue grounded in real-world experience. These sessions naturally foster the exchange of viewpoints, experience, and expertise—often leading to collaborations long after the Meeting ends.
This year, registrants can choose from 320+ Table Topics. New 90-minute formats are available as lunch (12:30 pm–2:00 pm) or over high tea (3:00 pm–4:30 pm). Each session is limited to eight participants (including the moderator), creating the perfect setting for deeper dialogue, shared insights, and meaningful professional connections.
Speed Networking | Whether this is your first Annual Meeting or you’re a long‑time INTA veteran, Speed Networking is a smart way to change up your experience. It’s easy to keep bumping into the same familiar faces year after year—Speed Networking breaks that pattern.
In one fast paced, structured session, you’ll meet new peers you might not otherwise encounter, exchange ideas efficiently, and practice your elevator pitch in a low-pressure setting. It’s a focused, energizing way to expand your network and meet your business objectives for the meeting.
“Bring your elevator pitch and be ready to make new connections. You never know who you might meet and what opportunities may arise from these interactions,” says Ms. Colquhoun.
There are 10 one-hour sessions available from Sunday through Wednesday. Pre-registration is required.
Flash Mentoring | New in 2026 and introduced as part of the expanded programming, Flash Mentoring includes INTA Board Alumni and other distinguished INTA leaders and is designed to promote cross-generational engagement, peer learning, and professional development.
These small group discussions will explore key professional development topics such as committee leadership, the path to the INTA Board, building effective teams, event chairing, business and career growth, and work-life balance.
These sessions also serve as a gateway to INTA’s formal one-on-one mentoring program. Space is limited and pre-registration is required.
Workshops | This year’s educational program features six workshops. These hands-on, practical explorations of emerging issues provide structured opportunities to meet peers with shared challenges and interests. Most workshops require pre-registration.
New this year, the Industry and IP Offices Workshop (Monday, May 4, 2:00 pm–4:45 pm) will bridge perspectives from industry and government on the future of IP through an afternoon of expert panels, interactive discussions, and networking. Two panels will be held as closed-door sessions to encourage candid dialogue among IP office representatives, while one panel will be open to industry participants, offering broader engagement and insight.
Law Firm Idea Exchange | Designed specifically for law firm practitioners, the Law Firm Idea Exchange (Monday, May 4, 3:15 pm–4:45 pm) is intended for open dialogue and candid conversation around the key challenges facing the practice today, with a focus on talent retention, generational transitions, and evolving client expectations. The goal is for everyone to leave with actionable takeaways that boost firm resilience and competitiveness in today’s rapidly evolving legal environment. Pre-registration is required.
Receptions | This year’s Annual Meeting features more than 15 receptions, some of which are connected to workshops or require pre-registration. Everyone is invited to attend the Welcome Reception (Sunday, May 3, 6:30 pm–8:00 pm) directly following the Opening Ceremonies (4:30 pm–6:00 pm) where we “officially” raise a glass and kick-off the Meeting. There are also six regional receptions during the week as well as a dedicated Patent Professionals Networking Reception (Tuesday, May 5, 5:00 pm–6:30 pm).
First-time registrants are encouraged to attend the Annual Meeting First-Time Registrant Orientation & Reception (Saturday, May 2, 3:30 pm–5:30 pm). This is a fun and informative event where you can gain some valuable advice on how to navigate the Annual Meeting and get involved in INTA and begin your networking in earnest.
“I remember my first INTA Annual Meeting. I was so overwhelmed. I was young. I was nervous,” reflects Annual Meeting Co-Chair Tanya Fickenscher, Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at Major League Baseball (USA). “Everybody seemed to know each other. I was hesitant to introduce myself or venture out. But when I did, it was remarkable how welcoming people were. There’s no easier place to begin than the First-Time Registrant Orientation & Reception.”
