Heart of Africa will be a phenomenal experience due to open in spring next year. It will cement Chester Zoo’s standing as one of the world’s very best conservation zoos. Featuring state-of-the-art conservation breeding facilities for a host of species, it will yet again see the zoo push the boundaries of world-class animal care.
FOREFRONT of GLOBAL CONSERVATION
In this issue, you can discover more about Heart of Africa’s showpiece: a large savannah filled with East African species mixing as they would in the wild, including giraffe, zebra, roan antelope, blesbok antelope and ostrich.
You'll also be able to discover more about our fieldwork across East Africa and how we collaborate with partners to help protect some of the world's most threatened species. We’re out there in the thick of it, working to protect grasslands, forests and wetlands in many parts of Africa through our conservation work – including empowering local people to protect the wildlife & habitats around them.
As well as the major developments ahead, the zoo has some exciting additions and events already here for you to enjoy this summer, including Manu, our new giant otter, and the arrival of a new pair of southern cassowaries in Islands.
